Since 1956, May has been designated as National Bike Month and here in Oregon, the Bike More Challenge has been around since 1995. Celebrating its 24th year, the month-long challenge encourages both new and experienced riders to get out of their cars and ride their bikes as much as possible. Companies all over Oregon compete to see whose employees can log the most bicycle rides and miles throughout the month of May. Not only is biking great for its physical and health benefits, it’s also a positive way to help the environment.
Here at Extensis, we have a lot of folks who are avid cyclists. Over 37% of Extensis employees participated and logged their miles in support. Scores for employees are calculated based on multiple criteria like the number of people you’ve encouraged to participate, the number of days in which you’ve taken a ride, and the total number of miles logged. These scores are then aggregated to determine a total score. This year, we finished 3rd in our division for Technology and IT companies with 50-199 staff!
Mark Murphy our Business Systems Manager and resident bike enthusiast initially set some key metrics to motivate and ignite our analytic and competitive spirits:

The office made Mark proud and kept the rubber side down!
Not only did the many participants commute to work to get their miles, some like Katherine, Sales Development Representative, took a leisurely 20 mile ride to St. Johns on a beautiful Portland weekend.
Well said Katherine! In Portland, walking and biking are the best ways to enjoy the city. Here are some great maps to help you explore. Check back next year to see if we can keep the riding momentum going. Until then, as Mark likes to say, keep the rubber side down, my friend. Cheers!
